OUR VISION & MISSION

WALLSEND · SHORTLAND

CALLED TO LIVE AND SHARE GOD’S MERCY

Our Vision and Mission express who we are as one parish family across St Patrick’s, Wallsend and Our Lady of Victories, Shortland, and where, together, we are being called by Christ.

OUR VISION

A WELCOMING, FAITH-FILLED AND MISSIONARY COMMUNITY

To be a welcoming, faith-filled and missionary Catholic community, centred on Jesus Christ and inspired by His Divine Mercy, where all people are invited to encounter God’s love, grow in faith, celebrate the Sacraments with joy, and serve one another with compassion, generosity and hope.

OUR MISSION

PRAYERFUL, FAITH-FILLED AND CENTRED ON CHRIST

Divine Mercy Parish Wallsend–Shortland is to become a welcoming, prayerful and faith-filled Catholic community, centred on Jesus Christ and His Divine Mercy, proclaiming the Gospel, celebrating the Sacraments, nurturing lifelong discipleship, and sharing God’s mercy through compassionate service, unity and outreach to all.

ONE PARISH FAMILY

TWO CHURCHES, ONE HOPE

United as one parish community, embracing Our Lady of Victories, Shortland, and St Patrick’s, Wallsend, we seek to honour the faith and traditions entrusted to us while journeying together towards the future.

Our hope is that Divine Mercy Parish will increasingly become a visible and living sign of God’s mercy, unity, healing and peace within our local community and beyond.

LIVING OUR MISSION

HOW WE LIVE OUR MISSION EACH DAY

Our mission is not only something we say. It shapes how we pray, welcome, care and serve across our whole parish family.

01

PRAYED, CELEBRATED AND LIVED

Rooted in the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ, we are called to be a community in which faith is not only professed but prayed, celebrated and lived. Through the proclamation of the Gospel and the celebration of the Sacraments—especially the Holy Eucharist—we seek to deepen our relationship with Christ and allow His mercy to shape our lives.

02

A PLACE TO BELONG

We desire to be a parish where everyone can experience a genuine sense of welcome and belonging. Through prayer, worship, faith formation, pastoral care and fellowship, we seek to accompany people at every stage of life and encourage each person to discover and share the gifts God has given them.

03

BEYOND OUR CHURCH WALLS

United through our communities of Our Lady of Victories, Shortland, and St Patrick’s, Wallsend, we recognise that our mission extends beyond the walls of our churches. We are called to bring the compassion of Christ to our families, schools, neighbourhoods and wider community, with particular care for the poor, lonely, elderly, sick, vulnerable and all who seek hope, healing or a place to belong.

04

GROWING TOGETHER

Guided by the Holy Spirit, we seek to grow together in holiness, discipleship, stewardship and shared responsibility. Clergy and laity, young and old, individuals and families are invited to participate actively in the life and mission of the parish.

RECEIVING, LIVING AND SHARING GOD’S MERCY

In this way, we hope to become not simply a parish that speaks about Divine Mercy, but a community that receives, lives and shares the mercy of Jesus Christ in all that we do.
