Baptism is the first sacrament of Christian initiation — welcoming a child or adult into new life in Christ, freeing them from original sin, and making them part of God’s family and our parish community. At Divine Mercy Parish, Wallsend & Shortland, we are here to guide and support you every step of the way.
Infants, children and adults are all warmly welcomed to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
Every baptism is celebrated as a joyful occasion for our Wallsend & Shortland community.

First Holy Communion is the second sacrament of Christian initiation — when a child receives the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist for the very first time. It’s a joyful milestone in a child’s faith journey, prepared for through our parish’s sacramental program. At Divine Mercy Parish, Wallsend & Shortland, we are here to walk with your family every step of the way.
Typically prepared for from Year 3 (around age 8), through our parish's sacramental preparation program.
Children and families are guided through preparation sessions in the lead-up to the celebration.

Confirmation is the third sacrament of Christian initiation — strengthening the gifts of the Holy Spirit first received at Baptism, and sealing a young person’s place in the Catholic faith. At Divine Mercy Parish, Wallsend & Shortland, we support candidates and their families throughout this important journey.
Usually received from Year 6 onwards, following a period of parish preparation.
Candidates are supported by sponsors, family and our whole parish community.
